This love story starts with the boldest move by a 12 year old. (I really mean that, I passed a lot of notes back in my day) It reads:
Dear Jenna,
Bowet (r? n?) may have asked you if you wanted to go out with me or if you would. I would like to ask you in this note if you would or not. If so then that is great! if not then I don’t want you to feel awkward when talking to me. I want us to be friends no matter what so please write back so I will know.
Sincerely,
Jerry
Please write back
PS – Don’t just say yes so I won’t feel bad. I will understand if you say no.
Yeah, I felt a piece of your heart melt, too. When I first heard this little story, I had to mop myself up off the floor and keep going. When I think of myself at 12, I have a hard time imaging passing such a mature note. Mine usually consisted of “Hey, what are you doing this afternoon?” and other nonsensical things like making fun of teachers and talking about random classmates. I can’t say honestly that I had any big plans for my future (because hey, what did I know?) but Jerry sure did!
I can feel the happiness dripping off of every inch of this wedding. The families that have been joined for so long finally becoming one, promises that had been made way before they were really understood, a deeper relationship than many can hope for when they get married. Throughout this wedding, I heard things like “Jenna is always herself” and “to know Jerry is to love Jerry” – and I can’t agree more. I take a lot of pride in my own marriage, but it would be tough to find a more genuine couple than these two.
Get your tissues ready.
Congrats Jerry and Jenna. Anyone can only hope for the kind of love that the two of you share. I am grateful for your new friendship, and so excited for your life to come as a married couple. Thank you so much for including me in your big day!
A special shout out to the Erica Burg Collective and Justin Nix. You guys were a dream to work with. I am so grateful for any opportunities I am afforded to work with others who are so talented. These guys are just so good.
